History

O ur family owned and operated funeral home was established in 1963 by James Blalock and James Coleman as Blalock-Coleman Funeral Home. This partnership continued into the 1970s until the health of James Blalock caused his retirement.

At this time, James and Betty Coleman became the sole owners and operators of the funeral home. This husband and wife ownership team continued in this capacity until January 1990. James Coleman continued to work as a funeral director for the next few years until his death on July 3, 2000. Betty Coleman is retired and resides here in Murray, Kentucky.

The current owners and operators of the funeral home are Kelvin R. York and Keith S. York. The York brothers were born in Murray, Kentucky to Robert Alvin and Edith Sue Reed York. Kelvin and Keith graduated from Mid-America College of Funeral Service and are certified by the National Board and are both licensed to practice in Kentucky and Tennesee. Edith Sue York died January 3, 1994 and their dad, Alvin, continues to assist with operating the funeral home. Keith's son, Scott, age 22, is a graduate of Murray State University, and assists at the funeral home as much as possible, but is a full time student in medical school. His youngest son Reed, age 13, likes to assist by carrying flowers and opening doors for incoming guests.

The York Family is very fortunate to have an extended family of co-workers that include, Marty and Becky Arant, Jack Norsworthy, Bobbie Wilcox, and Jim Kelly. In memory of Damon Mathis.

Our funeral home is truly our family helping your family.
