Richard  Don Smith

Mr. Richard Don Smith, age 71, of Murray, KY died at 7:30am Wednesday at his home. He was born Sept. 26,1940 in New Concord, KY to the late Eurie & Pauline (Marr) Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; Donna (Bucy) Smith to whom he was married August 14,1959, two daughters; Debbra Puckett (Kim), of New Providence, KY, and Daysha Carver (Billy), of Smyrna, TN, four grandchildren; Derrik Edwards (Shawna), Whitney Sollitto (Phil), Kylea Carver, Will Carver, and two great grandchildren; Makena Edwards and Sophia Edwards.

Since 1997, Don fought a battle with a brain tumor. He is now at peace where he is free from pain and forever content with his Lord. He was a committed Christian; a deeply devoted husband and father; an ordained deacon; and taught Sunday School for over 25 years. At the time of his death he was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He was a talented carpenter and home builder, but also loved and worked on the family farm together with his dad.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Eurie & Pauline Smith, inlaws; Jimmie & Dora Mae Bucy; and grandparents; Mr. & Mrs. Walter Smith, and Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Marr.

Don was blessed with two nurses who helped take care of him, Katherine Glass since 2010, and Belinda Coughenour since 2011. Hospice has been a real help; nurses, Tonia Kelly, Kim Bumb, and Laura Miller have been very attentive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday at York Funeral Home, with Rev. Joe Pat Winchester officiating. Burial will follow in McCuiston Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:30am Saturday at York Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Vanderbilt Cancer Research Center, 2100 Pierce Ave. Nashville, TN 37212 C/o Dr. Paul Moots, or to the Murray-Calloway Co. Hospital Hospice, 803 Poplar Street, Murray, KY 42071, or you may leave the donations at the funeral home.
